The Allen M Sumner class were 58 ships built for the United States Navy during WW2. These ships incorporated the excellent twin 5inch/38cal guns and increased AA armament, twin rudders were also installed to improve the turning circle and many other improvements were made over the previous Fletcher class.
These ships served from 1943 onwards with distinction, and served in the U.S. Navy until the 1970's. 4 were sunk during WW2, 29 were sold to many other navies during the cold war era and only two remain today as museum ships, one in South Carolina and one in Taiwan.
