97 Evarts class Destroyer Escorts were built from 1942 – 1944 to combat the German U-Boats in the Battle of the Atlantic. These were the short hull type with General Motors Tandem Diesel Drive (GMT).
32 of these were signed over to Great Britain as the Captain class Frigates as part of the Lend-Lease agreement. All of these were returned to the United States after World War 2. The British lost 6 of these ships during WW2, while accounting for 16 U-Boats in the European theatre of World War 2. The Evarts class ships also sank 11 Japanese Submarines in the Pacific with no loss to themselves. Despite the successes of these ships, they were under powered and had a bad tendency to roll, so all of this class of ship were scrapped straight after WW2.
This 1:72 scale hull comes with ships plating, shaft exit positions, ‘A’ bracket positions, rudder positions and anchor positions moulded in.
Hull is 1225mm Long and 149mm Wide
